Blessed with spectacular views and a strong sense of camaraderie, the day captured everything that the initiative set out to achieve. What began as a simple idea — to bring the community together through accessible and inclusive walks — has grown into something truly special, building confidence, wellbeing and connection along the way.
The ascent of Helvellyn marked an important milestone in the journey. For many, it was a moment of personal achievement; for others, a shared celebration of the friendships formed and the experiences gained over the course of the programme. Reaching the summit was a proud and joyful moment for all involved.
The walk also marked the final stage of this particular Couch to Scafell journey for Jo Gaskin, who has helped lead and shape the initiative. It was a fitting occasion to reflect on the success of the programme and the positive impact it has had across the Windermere School community.
As the series continues to grow, we look forward to welcoming more members of the community to future walks — and to creating many more shared moments in the fells.
