Charlie Ashman: Creativity, Courage and a Global Vision

As he prepares to sit his final exam this Monday, we celebrate one of Windermere School’s most remarkable pupils, Charlie Ashman.

At just 18 years old and completing his International Baccalaureate as a full-time boarder, Charlie leaves not only with qualifications, but with an already established global business and an inspiring story of creativity, determination and entrepreneurial spirit.

Charlie’s journey began at the age of 10 while living in Sri Lanka, where he first discovered a passion for photography. During the COVID lockdowns, when restrictions limited movement and opportunity, Charlie took matters into his own hands, teaching himself photography and videography through online resources and hours of practice. What started as curiosity quickly became a craft.

Fast forward to today, and Charlie is running his own successful business, working with clients across the world. His portfolio spans destinations including Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Spain and the Lake District, collaborating with major brands such as Porsche, as well as luxury travel companies like Travel for Teens and high-end holiday properties.

Closer to home, Charlie has made a significant contribution to Windermere School. Over the course of his Sixth Form years, he filmed every property for Ridgestone Collection and has supported the school with a range of marketing projects, many will remember his creative work, including the much-loved “Santa on the Lake”.

What makes Charlie’s story so powerful is not just his talent, but his willingness to take a bold step. As he leaves school, he does so having chosen to pursue his passion full-time, building his own business at an age when many are still deciding their path.

Charlie embodies the values we strive to nurture in all our pupils; independence, creativity, resilience and the confidence to follow one’s own direction.

We are incredibly proud of all that he has achieved and have no doubt that this is only the beginning.

Charlie, we wish you the very best of luck and we hope you won’t forget us as your journey continues.
