A Step Back in Time

While exploring our archives this week, we stumbled across a fascinating old school prospectus dating back to around 1930 — a wonderful glimpse into the early days of what was then St Anne’s School.

The prospectus offers a charming window into a very different era. The fees for Browhead were listed at just 40 guineas per term, and needlework featured proudly on the syllabus. Each girl was expected to mend and master all the stitches - a reflection of the care, creativity, and self-sufficiency that the school encouraged in every pupil.

It’s remarkable to see how much has changed over the years - from the style of the prospectus to the structure of school life - yet the essence of what we do remains the same. Windermere School continues to nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence, fostering the same spirit of independence and resilience that has guided generations before.

Exploring treasures like this reminds us how rich and inspiring our school’s history is, and how each generation contributes to the continuing story of Windermere. 🌿

If you’re a former pupil and have any old school materials, photographs, or memories to share, we’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch with Jo Gaskin, Head of Alumni and Community Relations, at jgaskin@windermereschool.co.uk.
